MORGAN ENDICOTT-DAVIES
HEAD INSTRUCTOR 4TH DAN


As a competitor Morgan is well know in Judo for his technical prowess and fighting ability. For those that have seen him compete he takes his opponents down with precision and class. Morgan now instructs his fighting techniques to students at Zenbu Judo club.

History

In 1993 Morgan began his Judo career whilst living in Japan where he studied the art and trained for a gruelling 12 months at Waseda University. There he developed an excellent technical understanding of Judo and was promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt. From then on the challenge was of a competitive nature.

In 1995 Morgan took his first medal at the National Titles with his 1st International Competition being Oceania in 1998 where he took Bronze at 81kg and Silver in the Open Weight division.

The 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney saw Morgan as a reserve missing out at the 2000 Oceania competition on a split decision.

Then came a gold medal at the 2001 National titles which was enough to take on the international scene competing at the Pacific Rim Championships, British Open, The prestigious Kano Cup (World Level) and then qualifying for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002 where he placed in the top four. More Australian and New Zealand National Titles then followed.


Olympic Games

The highlight of Morgan's competitive career was Selection for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. This was a culmination of winning the Oceania championships in 2004 and 10 years of a gruelling training regime domestically and in countries such a Japan, Korea, England and Germany.

Instructing
During Morgan's competitive career he has managed to contribute greatly to the instruction of Judo originally through Budokan Judo club where he and his father Ivor Endicott-Davies founded the existing dojo in Castle Hill.
Morgan has throughout the years has been invited to instruct at various seminars and camps around Australia and more recently along with senior black belt instructors of NSW has set up the BBR Judo Academy. The BBR Judo academy is a volunteer organisation which purpose is technical instruction to all NSW Judo members.


Zenbu Judo Club

In July 2005 Morgan founded and is the head instructor at Zenbu Judo club. He now conveys his vast knowledge of Judo and Experience to his students.

IVOR ENDCIOTT-DAVIES
INSTRUCTOR 6TH DAN (KODOKAN)


Ivor started his Judo career in 1966 aged 16, in the deep south of the South Island, Otago, New Zealand he then travelled to Japan 1970 and was based at the Kodokan first, and then went to Kyoto to live for nearly three years. Ivor trained at Doshisha University for 6 months then 2.5 years at Kidotai (Riot Police School) Fushimi Nari in the Kansai. The vast experience training in this Judo region has provided Ivor with strong background in Kosen Judo where he brings a wealth of Judo knowledge to the club in particular Newaza techniques of holds and submission techniques such as strangles and arm-locks.

Ivor returned to New Zealand, 1974. Ivor competed and taught Judo in New Zealand until 1980. Ivor was New Zealand Competitor/National Coach from 1978-1980 and a New Zealand Team Member in 1969, 1970,1975 to 1980. Ivor was selected as the National Coach of New Zealand for the 1980 Moscow Olympics which was soon boycotted by the New Zealand national team.

Ivor then Immigrated to Australia in August 1980 and is currently the grading convenor for Back Belts in New South Wales, is the BBR Academy instructor and technical advisor at Zenbu Judo club.

ALEX CHEW
INSTRUCTOR 1ST DAN


Alex is a current Judo State Team member with a speciality and in Newaza (Ground Game) through

Alex began his Martial Arts career 1998 training in Brazilian Jujutsu at North Sydney PCYC where he developed a good base for his ground work in Judo.
  
With a thirst for competition Alex started his Judo career in 2000 at Macquarie University  and has been a member of the Judo NSW state team since 2005
  
Alex is currently a 1st Dan Black Belt in Judo and Purple Belt in BJJ.

With medal interstate and a top five in the Australian National titles Alex is solid competitor and making a steady rise. Alex has also been selected as a Special Student by the NSW BBR Academy and has Participated in Judo NSW training camps to New Zealand and Japan

Alex instructs at Judo clinics for school students and now at Zenbu Judo club for Submission Wrestling and Newaza.

JOHN EKLUND
INSTRUCTOR 1ST KYU


Background / History
 
John Eklund started Judo at Wollongong Police Boys Club in 1969.

In 1972 he gained silver the Australian Championships, and was selected to represent Australia in a Judo Tour of New Zealand.

John is an experienced competitor who has participated in over 70 tournments in his competition career.

John was very active in University Judo during the course of his studies to be a teacher. After a long break John returned to Judo after a number years to practice with his two sons.
 
At Zenbu we are now fortunate not only to have John as an instructor but as current  referee to the game he brings a needed resource to the club. John is and NCAS level 1 coach and a  level A Referee State.

He has coached at Gladesville RSL before Zenbu. His aim is to keep fit and pass on the spirit of Judo to young players.

 

 

 

 
JONATHAN GOULD
INSTRUCTOR 3RD DAN


Jonathan Gould is a 3rd dan who has been studying judo since 1982. He has lived in Japan for extended periods and trained at the Kodokan, Nittai-Dai University and Komazawa University. Jonathan is still a keen participant at training and teaching in the Zenbu Club. His favourite throwing techniques are leg sweeps and hip throws. Jonathan is keen to pass on his skills and knowledge acquired and to further develop his own judo. Jonathan has competed at regional contests in both Japan and in Australia as well as at a state level in NSW.
